Thailand has the official name Kingdom of Thailand and is a Southeast Asian country. In Tai language, it is written ประเทศไทย and it is read Protej Tai (the country of the tai) or ราช อาณาจักร ไทย Pracha Anak Tai (the Sacred Kingdom of the Tai). It is one of most important international tourist destinations in Southeast Asia.
Thailand is considered one of the “most Buddhist countries in the world” and this religion of the Theravada school shapes its culture and national life. The monk is treated like a noble and is the object of great reverence. The pagodas, beautifully maintained and full of ornamental details are the center of the community life of the country. It is possible to see altars dedicated to the deceased in many houses. Other minority religions also have their impact, especially Islam practiced in the south of the country, but which has its presence and its mosques in the capital and Catholicism with villages built around churches of ancient tradition. In the same way, numerous ethnic tribes, especially in the north of the country, have their own traditions.
It is a country that already has an important tourist tradition so you have to make a little effort if you want to see something authentic and escape the tourist circuits and its bustle. Beyond that, people are extremely polite and pleasant and will make you feel like at home at all times.
